En Plein Air Workshop for Oil and Acrylic Painters
Five full days of painting on Orr’s Island, ME

August 21-27 – Sunday to Saturday

With Jill Pottle – painting in Oils or Acrylics

This is an exciting full 5 days of painting on location on Orr’s Island where there is the rich light and colors of Coastal Maine. Each day we will pick a location, set up and paint. I will do my morning demo for about an hour and a half and then students will dive into their own work for the rest of the morning. I will be available Monday thru Friday three hours in the morning and afternoon to work with students. Students will learn how to simplify forms, and develop overlapping areas of trees and rock, in order to create depth, color relationships in the water and sky and land, and address other compositional issues. We will work on two works of art each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We will learn how to get going quickly with the set up and how to capture the scenery fast with big shapes and ideas. It’s exciting to paint fast and loose and try to capture a moment in time in nature.

We will work on location in different areas on Orr’s Island. In bad weather we will work inside or on the porch of “Crow’s Nest” lodging. I will do group critiques and we will look at historical references at the end of our workday.

Where are we located?

Margaret Arndt is sharing her old family summer house known as “Crow’s Nest’ nestled on the top of a hill overlooking Harpswell Sound, a part of Casco Bay, on Orrs Island in ME. Crow’s Nest has seven bedrooms and two bathrooms that can accommodate 12/13 people. An open porch faces west providing a spectacular view of the sunset and oftentimes Mt. Washington in NH over 100 miles away? Accommodations are basic, clean, comfortable and cozy. I love this place, it is perfect for painting.
